Framework for Professional Development
The Competency Guidelines create a map for the required professional development of Endorsed Professionals. The Crosswalks take this a step further by connecting those guidelines with the educational resources needed to fulfill them.
Competency Guidelines
The Competency Guidelines® create a shared framework for professional development across all sectors and disciplines of the infant, early childhood and family field and across the full spectrum of service delivery. This includes promotion, prevention, treatment and intervention, and leadership.
Additionally, they outline the requirements for Endorsement by guiding one’s development of knowledge, skills and best practices through specialized experiences (education, work, in-service training, and reflective supervision / consultation).
The Competency Guidelines® are comprised of 8 domains:
- Theoretical Foundations
- Law, Regulation & Agency Policy
- Systems Expertise
- Direct Service Skills
- Working with Others
- Communicating
- Thinking
- Reflection
The Alliance for the Advancement of Infant Mental Health and the Michigan Association of Infant Mental Health are currently working on significant revisions and updates of this document, including updates to categories and requirements. You can always check for the most recent version by using the button below. If you have questions, please use our contact form to reach out to our Endorsement Coordinator.
Program Crosswalks
Multiple crosswalks have been created to bridge the Competency Guidelines to nationally recognized training curricula. Having these documents available for Endorsement applicants can assist them in “connecting the dots” between the training they’ve attended and the appropriate competencies.
The crosswalks give infant and early childhood mental health professionals numerous hours of competency-based training, allowing the training sections of their Endorsement applications to be expedited.
